I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I spent some time working on more Valentine’s Day gifts, including this hand painted wooden sign! I decided to use a lyric from one of my favorite songs “Home” by Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros.
I started by using a long basswood plaque that you can find from your local crafts store. I then sketched out my lettering and design. Then it was time to paint! Using my acrylic paints I chose some bright colors that worked well together. These include a turquoise, red, yellow, sage green and silver glitter craft paint.
After the paint was dry I sealed the sign with a clear gloss to give it a nice finish, as well as to protect the bark edge from chipping. Lastly, I made the sign ready to hang by using small nails and wire on the back.
I love creating these types of signs as they are so versatile! They can hang on a wall, a front door, or rest on a shelf. I look forward to making more for my Etsy shop, and maybe one to keep as well!
What would you like written on your sign?
