In honor of the recent one year wedding anniversary of my sister and her husband, I thought I would take it back to last Spring, when we hosted a garden party themed wedding shower. With the help of friends and family we put together an event that was both colorful while rustic and the perfect outdoor atmosphere for celebrating, socializing and a little day drinking (out of mason jars of course). Everything was perfect until the thunderstorm rolled in, but hey what can you do?
The Prep Work:
From left to right:
1.Yellow Daisies transplanted into an old pair of rain boots welcomes you at the gate
2. DIY construction paper crowns and mustaches hot glued on paper straws are a fun prop for
He Said/She Said shower games
3. Plastic Potted Plants (say that 3x fast) attached to pallets with a staple gun adds pops of color around the white fence
DIY Fabric Banner: I used seven different coordinating fabrics, cut them in strips and hot glued them around raffia string, the easiest banner I have yet to make!
chalkboard drink menu, paper lanterns and a shabby chic makeshift bar
mason jars and paper straws just make drinking more fun
to go along with the theme: an old wheelbarrow for cold beverages
You know that old piece of furniture you have laying around? Bring it outside! Use it instead of plastic tables for plates, cups, napkins. The best decor is useful and pretty!
lastly, don’t forget fresh flowers- mason jars, tied with raffia string and set atop burlap table runners
All in all it was a great day. Before the party was over the sun peaked its head back out and we picked up where we left off – in the fresh air, with the smell of flowers, the chatter of friends and the beginning of wedding festivities!
