As you may recall, I have been slowly working on the guest bedroom in my parent’s house. Slowly, is an understatement as the only real progress that has been made is a change in the wall color from bright yellow to a mellow yellow, as you can see here. However, I will hopefully be finishing up this room very shortly! When redecorating a room, I find it helpful to start with an inspiration board!
I know only one thing, the room is now a pale yellow. From there I decided that I would use shades of blue as my secondary color, with accents of orange, thus incorporating the 60-30-10 rule. I am hoping for a room that is shabby chic but not overly so, with some contemporary touches. While the bedroom before was very basic, it did not feel soothing or comfortable (the insanely bright walls did not help). Therefore I want to incorporate some crisp whites against the soft yellow walls, while still keeping it calm. A white comforter, sheets, and headboard has always looked so dreamy to me, and seem the perfect choice for a guest bedroom. From there I hope to bring in some bold blue patterns in some of the other furniture pieces (like a chair), and accessories. Lastly, orange accents will round out the room in smaller pops of color. This design concept helped me when creating the below board.
While I am sure the finished room will not look exactly like this, it is a great jumping off point to narrow down the design choices and to keep certain ideas in mind while shopping. Many of these items are from my favorite stores, but out of the budget, so I plan on looking for similar items to create the look and feel of this room.

10. Chevron Pattern Chair – West Elm

Aww Jodi, it’s so nice of you to makeover a room for me. I’ll love it no matter what it looks like. Love your choices. 😉 Karen xoxo
Haha why thank you!! What good is a guest room without a guest!! 🙂
I loved the ruched duvet cover from pottery barn as well, and recently found a very similar one for about $50 at home goods!
Your choice of colors are beautiful, they all go with each other!
Thank you Fictionalwhimsical!
Danielle – thanks for the info! I love Home Goods! I actually just found a comforter from Target that’s white and similar as well! Love hearing the good deals out there!
