Welcome to my holiday home tour! This year I am linking up to Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday House Walk! For first time visitors, I am Jodi and I live with my husband in an apartment in Boston, which makes decorating (especially for the holidays) a challenge that I love to take on! Whether you rent or own, live in an apartment or a house, it is always important to make your space feel like a home. Our apartment feels extra homey and cozy during the Christmas season, when I mix vintage decor and rustic elements, sip hot chocolate from the cocoa bar and watch the snow fall over the city.
For those of you who do follow my blog, you know that this is the ever-changing corner of our apartment. It has thus far been a book nook, a coffee corner, a crafting corner and now it is our cocoa corner! The tree has a mixture of vintage and rustic ornaments with a burlap garland and a “Peace” “Love” and “Joy” garland I painted on brown kraft paper. A while back I converted this old baker’s rack into a coffee station (see that post here), so it was an easy update to turn that into a hot cocoa station!
I made this rustic sign out of some scrap wood I had and hung it over the designated area with some burlap ribbon.
I added all the fixings to make s’mores on the top rack, and used some chalkboard paint on a wooden round and wrote “Have S’more Cocoa” to really draw attention to the area. I put out some hot cocoa mixes, chocolate and peppermint shavings, cinnamon, spoons, to-go cups/lids and some Christmas mugs so that anything needed to make a delicious cup of cocoa is right there.
A downside in living in an apartment? No place to hang the stockings! With out a fireplace I was stuck, I have hung our stockings with hangers from shelves in the past, but wanted something different this year (after all we have new Pier 1 stockings, and they deserve to be on display!). Therefore I took this old window added two nails, some snowflake garland and some fresh greenery and berries to the top! We are ready for Santa!
One of my other favorite spaces to be during the holiday season is curled up on my bed enjoying a Christmas movie!
One of the best updates I made to our apartment this year was adding these birch tree wall decals to our bedroom wall! They really help to add a rustic element to our room, as well as make the whole space seem larger! I have always loved the idea of stockings in bedrooms as well, and couldn’t wait to hang these quilted vintage looking stockings from the trees!
The rustic branch theme doesn’t end in the bedroom, as a much larger tree (diy post here) sits in the living room awaiting Christmas cards.
Since our apartment has a relatively open floor plan, I try to create designated spaces to keep things organized. Therefore my crafting desk became my gift wrapping station for the season.
The entry way couldn’t be ignored either, so I painted a Noel burlap banner that hangs over some vintage Christmas accessories that adorn the shelves.
I painted another sign for the hutch on the balcony, and added some mini trees into the drawer.
If we are looking for something a little stronger than cocoa this season, we just head over to the bar area which is subtly decorated for the season as well. I added mini led lights throughout the fresh greens and used a chalkboard marker to create a festive and fitting sign for the bar.
Finally, little touches were added here and there like the mini Santa hauling the trees (a big theme for me this year in case you haven’t noticed!), the amazing wooden advent calendar (from Home Goods, along with the former), a vintage crate filled with candles, and a Joy to the World sign I painted for above the kitchen shelves.
That’s about it, I hope you enjoyed the tour! And thank you for stopping by!
