I have lived in four apartments in five years. While this may drive some people crazy, I love it. Why? Because that means I get to decorate! New spaces means changing things up a little. Even if it’s the same stuff, I like having the opportunity to create new vignettes and new spaces. My current favorite space in our new apartment is The Book Nook. Yes that is what I call it.
Ok so it is not so much a nook, as it is a corner of the room. But don’t you dare call it a corner.
This once awkward space now works perfectly for breakfast, or tea for two! On that note, it is important to point out that Jim has never, ever sat in the nook, no matter how hard I try. I suppose this due in part to the pretty pillows, and flowers, and tea cups…
Recently the nook has become more of a wedding headquarters, filled with my wedding binder, fancy pens, and all of the beautiful hardcover wedding idea books out there! Also another reason Jim stays clear…
Since it is my favorite space, I like to use fresh flowers as often as I can to keep it pretty, and smelling lovely of course!
I also like to fill my handmade pallet garden with flowers, and tea lights! I made this by spray painting a pallet white, and using metal strapping to secure various glass bottles, vases and jelly jars.
I also made the below spool table out of an old cable spool and painted it white, added wooden dowels, castor wheels and then used a piece of round glass to top it off. This is placed next to my chair from Home Goods, and a throw pillow from Pier 1 Imports. Doesn’t this spot just beg for a cup of coffee in the morning? Or to curl up with a good book? In the nook…
As far as the book shelves, I like to take the book jackets off of my hard covered books and organize them by color. With open shelving it is important not to add too much. I showcase some of my favorite pieces including a piece of art I bought for $1 at a yard sale, vintage bottles and some of my favorite framed pictures.
The space is pulled together with one of my favorite flea market finds – the orange clock.
What are some of your favorite spaces in your home and why? Send me pictures to be featured on the blog!
Love this nook! I am now looking at corners assessing the potential. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.
Thank you!! That’s great! Yes so many possibilities with corners of rooms!
