This Little Golden Book Baby Shower belongs to: Holly Zito!
We recently threw a children’s book themed baby shower for my sister with lots of Little Golden Book decorations, and I am so excited to show you some of the details from this fun day! My mother and I chose this theme because my sister loves children’s books, it is a gender neutral theme, and lastly because Little Golden Books have that vintage feel to them, and I am a sucker for anything vintage (and so is my sister).
I found these adorable Little Golden Book baby shower invitations from Feathered Heart Prints on Etsy. I just love how these set the theme for the entire shower!
(see bottom of post for list of party details/sources)
We held the baby shower in a private upstairs area at a restaurant in Wethersfield, CT called Lucky Lou’s. We chose this venue because the old-world charm of the restaurant fit our theme so well. And also because the food is delicious.
Upon entering the baby shower, we had a little area for guests to guess how many “book worms” were in the glass jar, as well as sign their names in the guestbook.
The “guestbook” was a sign that I painted with a Dr. Suess quote and the outline of books for the guests to sign their names in. I made this sign so that Holly could later frame it and hang it in her nursery!
We decorated the restaurant with plenty of Little Golden Books, some vintage toys, and Little Golden Book banners and flower box centerpieces.
We made Holly’s table the “Mother Goose” table and lined it with different Mother Goose books and flower boxes made of only the Mother Goose book covers.
For the banners I had found fabric of two classic Little Golden Book stories “The Poky Little Puppy” and “The Saggy Baggy Elephant”. This fabric consisted of the printed book pages in order to make a soft fabric book. However I decided to buy the fabric to cut out the squares and make banners instead! We cut out each fabric page and notched out a triangle on the bottom to give it that banner look. We then hot glued the fabric to some twine instead of sewing! From the two sheets of fabric we were able to make four fabric banners, with plenty of cute fabric left over!
For the Little Golden Book flower box centerpieces we printed out the covers of some classic Little Golden Books and used Mod Podge to cover cardboard boxes that we picked up from Michaels. After they were all dry we filled them with pots of geraniums! These were my favorite part of the decor, I loved how easy they were to make and how they looked like they were assembled from actual books! And they can be used in the nursery or as little storage boxes after the shower!
Lunch consisted of a buffet, and right before everyone ate we played a quick trivia quiz game about popular Children’s Books!
I also painted these wooden photo props to go along with the Poky Little Puppy and Scrawny Tawny Lion books.
To continue with the vintage feel I created a little old fashioned candy bar! I ordered some vintage type candy like Sugar Daddy’s, Mary Janes, and Root Beer Barrels. To go with the children’s book theme I filled in with some more “book worms” aka gummy worms and some swedish fish (to go with One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish). And lastly Lemon Drops because they are both old fashioned and a family favorite. I also painted a wooden Candy Bar sign to go in this area. With some candy jars, a vintage looking scale, pinwheels, polka dot napkins and candy bags this area was complete!
And to really leave the guests with a sugar high, we also had some homemade cookies and a Little Golden Book Cake (not homemade)!
The shower was a display, so everyone could walk around and see all of the amazing unwrapped gifts Holly and Craig received! We had included on the invitation for guests to “bring a book instead of a card”, therefore we were able to display many of the adorable books as well! Since the shower Holly has already glued on each book plate (“This Book belongs to Baby Zito” card that came with the invitation) to all of the books! I love that Holly, Craig and Baby Zito will forever know who each book was from, along with a sweet message!
It was such a nice day filled with good food, family and friends! And we were all excited to share in the celebration of Holly & Craig’s new chapter!
Congratulations to Holly & Craig!
